This program is dedicated to dreamers and visionaries: those who take their own path, often at high personal cost. Kevin Puts’ trio And Legions Will Rise channels “the power in all of us to transcend during times of tragedy and personal crisis”. The violin, clarinet and marimba create colourful effects, often dreamlike and hypnotic. Peter Sculthorpe’s Dream Tracks sings into existence the distant landscapes of Torres Strait, Arnhem Land and Kakadu. The Sonata no.3 op.69 was composed at a time when Beethoven was almost completely deaf, and although an uplifting work, bears the title ‘Inter Lacrimas et Luctum’ (Amid Tears and Sorrow). Robert Schumann composed his beloved Piano Quartet Op. 47 in 1842, two years after realising his dream of marrying Clara Wieck and one of the happiest times of his life.
