Robin Raven Prichard, Professor of Dance at The University of Akron, Scholar Fulbright NZ presents Native American Dance and 21st Century Innovation.
Intertribal powwows the primary form through which Native American performing innovation occurs in the 21st century, dismantling binaries of mobility/status, future/past, and innovation/tradition. This presentation introduces Native American intertribal dance, including five premises in studying Indigenous dance, a short history of the development of powwows, how gender informs and impacts powwow dance forms, and 2-Spirit powwows.

Robin Prichard (Tsalagihi Ayeli, Southern Ute) is a US scholar working between the worlds of concert dance and Indigenous dance. She has received two Fulbright Fellowships, an Australian Federation of University Women Fellowship, the Glorya Kaufmann Award, and state and local arts awards. She has served as a professor of dance for two decades, published in Journal of Dance Education, Dance Education in Practice, and several book chapters on Native American dance. She is currently a Fulbright Scholar in Aotearoa/New Zealand, looking at how Māori epistemologies and cosmologies are transforming university educational institutions.
