The Symposium will start at UNSW Galleries before moving to AD Space and Kudos Gallery. Featuring performances by Sïan Kelly and Holly Dixon, with artist talks by Eleanor Zurowski, Michael Blake, Karen Lee and Shamanthi Rajasingham.

This one-day symposium draws together diverse perspectives on the Great Ocean as a connector to culture, ancestral traditions and the movement of people. Join artists and guest speakers as they discuss issues connecting communities and cultures, including displacement and labour, cultural activism in the face of colonisation and the creation of new cultural phenomena.

A conversation between artist Shivanjani Lal and poet Manisha Anjali. Together they will discuss the experiences of diaspora, tracing a thread from India, across the Pacific to Australia, uncovering the many layers that inform these histories. The artists will also consider the importance of language, specifically Fijian Hindi, and how this significant component of culture shapes their creative practices.
