NSW Waterbird Breeding Monitoring Webinar

7 June 2023
7.30pm – 8.15pm AEST
Online
This event has ended

Flooding and water for the environment led to vast numbers of waterbirds including large nesting colonies of Pelicans, Straw-necked Ibis, Royal Spoonbill and Egrets breeding at wetlands throughout the northern and central Murray Darling Basin (MDB) from late 2021 to early 2023.

UNSW Sydney’s Centre for Ecosystem Science (UNSW-CES), the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder (CEWH) and the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) invite you to a presentation by UNSW Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Kate Brandis to learn more about the monitoring of the breeding event.

Learn how the birds are studied and how the real-time monitoring data provides the CEWH and NSW Environmental Water Managers with essential information for water flow management decision-making during breeding events, to ensure the chicks have every chance of survival, as well as ongoing environmental management.

Agenda:

  • Introduction, Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder representative (2.5 mins)
  • Introduction, NSW Department of Planning and Environment, Dr. Joanne Lenehan (2.5 mins)
  • About the breeding event, real-time monitoring and overall results, UNSW's Dr. Kate Brandis (20 mins)
  • Q&A (20 mins)

Who should attend:
Any member of the general public with an interest in the environment of the northern and central MBD, waterbird breeding and monitoring and/or how water for the environment is used.
