The Collegium Musicum Choir and Burgundian Consort together begin UNSW's choral year celebrating the music of Czech masters Antonin Dvořák and Leos Janáček.

Dvořák's Six Moravian Songs were composed as duets for women's voices, until Janáček rescored them for mixed choir using Dvořák's original piano accompaniment. The Burgundian Consort will be joined by celebrated Australia Ensemble pianist Ian Munro for this performance.

Janáček's Otčenáš is a challenging and crystalline setting of The Lord's Prayer for tenor, choir, harp and organ, drawing on Moravian folk song. Singing in the original Czech, the Collegium Musicum Choir will perform with tenor Owen Elsley, who returns in the second half with Chloe Lankshear, soprano, Stephanie Dillon, alto and Philip Murray, bass. Dvořák wrote his Mass in D major for soloists, mixed choir and organ, as it will be performed on this occasion. It is a lilting work, rich in melodic imagery befitting the Western Bohemian chapel for which it was composed in 1887.
