Future of Health Seminar - Tackling Obesity and Chronic Kidney Disease

This seminar will explore the growing prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its key risk factors, including obesity and diabetes. We’ll examine why early detection is critical for overall health, review recent medical advances in treating both CKD and obesity, and discuss how lifestyle changes intersect with new obesity medications to improve outcomes. The development of GLP-1/2 agonists (e.g., Ozempic/Mounjaro) has revolutionised treatment. These extraordinary therapeutic advances appear to impact several chronic diseases.

Our keynote speaker:
We are honoured to welcome Professor HJ (Hiddo) Lambers Heerspink from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Prof Heerspink is an internationally recognised leader in kidney disease research and the development of GLP-1/2 agonists.

Professor Heerspink will be joined in conversation by:

  • Professor Charlotte Hespe AM – an accomplished physician researcher working in a primary care setting.
  • Mr Dean Guiness – a healthcare professional with lived experience of renal disease representing the consumer voice.
