Vint Cerf, Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google, will be in conversation with UNSW Scientia Professor Toby Walsh to discuss issues including the development and future of the internet, the Internet of Things and digital security. The event will be introduced by Professor Emma Johnston, Dean of Science at UNSW and President of Science and Technology Australia.

Vinton G. Cerf contributes to global policy development and the continued spread of the Internet. Widely known as one of the ‘Fathers of the Internet,’ Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet. He has served in executive positions at MCI, the Corporation for National Research Initiatives and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and on the faculty of Stanford University.

Vint Cerf

Vinton G. Cerf is vice president and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google and contributes to global policy development and the continued spread of the Internet. Widely known as one of the ‘Fathers of the Internet,’ Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet. He has served in executive positions at MCI, the Corporation for National Research Initiatives and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and on the faculty of Stanford University.

Cerf served as chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) from 2000-2007 and has been a Visiting Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 1998. He served as founding president of the Internet Society (ISOC) from 1992-1995. Cerf is also a Foreign Member of the British Royal Society and Swedish Academy of Engineering, and Fellow of IEEE, ACM, and American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the International Engineering Consortium. President Obama appointed him to the US National Science Board in 2012

Toby Walsh

Toby Walsh

Toby Walsh is a leading researcher in Artificial Intelligence. He was named by the Australian newspaper as a "rock star" of Australia's digital revolution. He is Scientia Professor of Artificial Intelligence at UNSW, leads the Algorithmic Decision Theory group at Data61, Australia's Centre of Excellence for ICT Research, and is Guest Professor at TU Berlin.

He has written several books about Artifical Intelligence for a general audience and the latest 2062: The World that AI Made will be published later this year. He regularly appears in the media talking and writing about the impact of AI and robotics and is passionate that limits are placed on AI to ensure the public good. He has played a leading role at the UN and elsewhere on the campaign to ban lethal autonomous weapons (aka "killer robots").
