Join us for a forum in the UNSW Inclusive Science Series.

Hosted by the Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), Faculty of Science, Dr. Carlo Caponecchia, this event will explore Neurodiversity, a term coined by Australian sociologist Judy Singer in 1998. The panel will also discuss the history of Neurodiversity, the medical model and the lifespan, and current research. Joining the panel will be a current UNSW undergraduate sharing her life experience with Neurodiversity. Joining UNSW’s Associate Dean of EDI will be Dr. Julian Trollor, Head of the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry, Jane Hwang from the Kirby Institute, and Lehan Zhang student member of UNSW’s Science EDI Working Group.

Dr. Julian Trollor Heads the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry, UNSW and holds the inaugural Chair of Intellectual Disability Mental Health. Dr. Trollor works with State and Federal Government departments to improve the delivery capacity of psychiatric service to people with an intellectual disability. He also participates in research examining aging in neurodiverse populations.

Dr. Jane Hwang is a research associate in the Justice Health Research Program at the Kirby Institute, UNSW. Her research interests are in intellectual and developmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum disorder, public health, justice health and ageing.

Ms. Lehan Zhang represents students in the UNSW Sciences Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group. Ms. Zhang is working towards a degree in Data Science from UNSW Science.

Dr. Carlo Caponecchia is the Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion within the Faculty of Science, UNSW. Dr. Caponecchia is a member of the Standards of Australia Committee responsible for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. He also strives to create equitable working and learning environments within the UNSW community.
