Join us this National Science Week on Wednesday 19 August 4-5pm (AEST) for a free live streamed interactive Q&A where you can meet some amazing people with exciting careers in science, tech, engineering and maths, learn how they started their career pathways and get answers to your questions about careers in STEM!

Meet our speakers

Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith is a black hole wrangling astrophysicist, author, presenter and Australia’s Women in STEM Ambassador. Lisa has used telescopes across the globe to research stars, galaxies and black holes, answering some of the biggest questions about our universe! As Australia’s Women in STEM Ambassador, Lisa works across government, education and training, research and industry to promote gender equity in STEM fields.  

Marita Cheng AM is a roboticist, tech entrepreneur and CEO of Aubot. Marita is the founder of Aipoly, using artificial intelligence to recognize objects in real time to help the visually impaired navigate the world, and Aubot, making telepresence robots and robotics arms that care and enable.  She was named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 and the World’s Top 50 Women In Tech. Marita also founded Robogals, an international organisation inspiring girls into engineering.

Dr Kalinda Griffiths is an epidemiologist at the Centre for Big Data Research at UNSW. She is a Yawuru woman and one of Science and Technology Australia’s Superstars of STEM. Kalinda uses big data to measure health disparities between populations for diseases such as cancer, looks at how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health data is managed and is working to enable health research in regional and remote Australia.  

Lauren Sullivan is a science communicator and Project Officer in the Office of the Women in STEM Ambassador at UNSW. Lauren works on projects to increase the visibility of STEM role models, promote STEM pathways to girls and advocate for gender equity in STEM. She has a science background in molecular & cell biology and biotechnology and a range of science communication experience from podcasting and science shows to developing STEM workshops for students and teachers.
