Follow the voice, follow the sheep, follow along … if you can. From love’s follies to musical ping pong and political machinations, these two ensembles present an electrifying program from sung-storytelling to epoch-defining, cutting-edge new music.

Colla Voce presents
SONGSCENE

Colla Voce, which translates from Italian to ‘follow the voice’, is a page-to-stage ensemble focussing on the visualisation and execution of sung storytelling. Vocalists direct and sing their own works, supported by the ensemble, and explore song subtext by improvisational minor keys to strengthen the narrative.

New Music Collective presents
A GAME OF DOUBLES

Can you tell who the black sheep is? Can you follow the sparring? A visit to Popocatépetl anyone?

We go from story time to play time with a hair-raising, adrenaline-filled program from New Music Collective, paying homage to two giants of twentieth century music – Louis Andriessen and Frederic Rzewski. A musical game of ping-pong, with Adriessen’s fiendish Hoketus. A comical tongue-twister with Ernst Toch’s Geographical Fuge. A silly-serious social commentary in Rzewski’s Les Moutons de Panurge (The Sheep of Panurge) makes music out of the most human of elements - inaccuracy and error - which begs the question, are YOU a sheep? It’d be helpful if you are, so join along!
