Sink into immersive soundscapes designed to support sleep and reduce anxiety in an 16-speaker immersive kiosk, and join the discussion around the possibilities for developing sound environments that support wellbeing for a diversity of environments and listeners.

The Sleep Through series of long-form audio was developed for the ABC to support sleep in children, and has been broadcast nightly on ABC Kids Listen since 2019. In conversation with music psychology researchers and through community surveys, the sound environments were refined over several seasons and were shown to be effective in supporting healthy sleep.

Since their commercial release on streaming services, and through the ABC Listen app, these pieces have found new listeners among adults, who have been using them for sleep, to reduce stress and to help remove distraction. The compositional approaches developed throughout the course of this research have wider implications for supporting a spectrum of listeners and listening contexts.

For The Big Anxiety, composer Adam Hulbert has reworked some of these pieces for an immersive sound array to explore some of the possibilities for spatial experiences, and as a starting point for a conversation about the possibilities of somatic listening for health and wellbeing.
