Untold Stories is a lived experience storytelling project where UNSW students and staff share their personal experiences and journey to recovery, to help and inspire others going through similar experiences.

Stories capture our attention; they make us laugh, they make us cry – and connecting us empathetically they humanise experiences, enabling us to transcend societal misconceptions. When individuals share their mental health journeys through storytelling, they break down the barriers of shame and silence. Knowing someone else shares a common experience, helps us recognise the universality of these challenges.

The humans who shared the stories on display are both brave and caring. They invite you to see through a window of their lives, to the challenges they have faced, so that you may look upon yourself or another with empathy and compassion. UNSW’s Roxie Vuong’s photographs accompany these stories.

The physical exhibition will be displayed 4 - 27 March at the Helen Maguire Lawn at the Kensington Campus. View the stories online in the digital exhibition
