Women's Health in a Digital World: Preventing Technology Facilitated Violence
As our lives become increasingly digital, so too do the forms of harm that disproportionately affect women and girls.
Technology-facilitated gender-based violence, including online harassment, image-based abuse, coercive control, cyberstalking and emerging AI-enabled harms is a growing public health, gender equity and societal challenge. These experiences can have profound impacts on health, safety, wellbeing and participation in education, work and community life.
Join the UNSW Medicine & Health Gender Equity Network in recognition of this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, for a timely and thought-provoking discussion that brings together leading experts from health, social sciences, technology, policy and practice to explore how we can create safer and more respectful digital environments.
This event sits within UNSW’s response to the Australian Government’s National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-Based Violence. It supports the rollout of UNSW’s new Policy and Procedure (effective 1 January 2026) and contributes to the development and implementation of the Whole of Organisation Prevention and Response Plan.
Together, we'll explore one critical question:
What should UNSW and universities prioritise in digital safety and what practical supports do staff and students need to prevent and respond to technology-facilitated abuse?
