a sparkler

Join us for SPARK: Kindling Girl’s Passion for STEMM! We invite local-area high school girls and members of the UNSW community to attend in person at the Kensington Campus; we welcome those who can’t join us in person to join us via livestream! Attendance in person or via stream is free.

The audience will have an opportunity to hear from nine fantastic female UNSW researchers from across the STEMM disciplines and across a range of career stages. Researchers will each give an engaging “lightning-style” presentation. Their task: “share your passion in a 3-minute fashion!”. We will then host a Q&A session, including questions from those streaming in!

Our speakers are:

  • Rona Chandrawati, Senior Lecturer, School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW Engineering
  • Rita Henderson, Associate Professor, School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW Engineering
  • Damia Mawad, Senior Lecturer, School of Materials Science and Engineering, UNSW Science
  • Kerrie McDonald, Associate Professor, Prince of Wales Medical School, UNSW Medicine
  • Ilham Osman, PhD candidate, School of Electrical Engineering & Telecommunications, UNSW Engineering
  • Nalini Pather, Professor, School of Medical Sciences, UNSW Medicine
  • Jenny Richmond, Senior Lecturer, School of Psychology, UNSW Science
  • Rosie Steinberg, PhD candidate, School of Biological, Earth, and Environmental Sciences, UNSW Science
  • Daniella Susic, PhD candidate, Microbiome Research Centre, UNSW Medicine

Our aim is to spark enthusiasm for careers in STEMM by showcasing the diversity of topics and the exciting aspects of working within these fields.

The event will run from 10:00am - 11:30am, with the nine lighting talks followed by the Q&A session.

High school students attending in person are invited to arrive to UNSW Kensington Campus at 9:30 - 9:45am and to stay after the event from 11:30am - 12:30pm to chat with current female Science, Engineering and Medicine students over lunch (please bring your own lunches; lunch will not be provided).

If you have any further questions please email Alyce Taylor at science.engagement@unsw.edu.au
