Join us on Wednesday 3 May 2023, 4pm – 8pm, for the LegalTech Venture Day Australia competition, where start-ups will compete to pitch their new, innovative ideas for LegalTech.

Legal Tech Venture Day Australia is brought to you by the UNSW Allens Hub for Technology, Law and InnovationUNSW Business AI LabUNSW SydneyAustralian Legal Technology Association (ALTA)IE University Law SchoolLexis Nexis and Law Schools Global League.

This cutting-edge and highly anticipated competition has been designed to seek out and support startups that have a positive and forward-thinking outlook on the major challenges faced by legal operators and legal systems today. By providing solutions and ideas to help ease these challenges, such startups are not only furthering the cause of justice, but also transforming the face of law forever.

Winners of the Australian competition will win a return economy international flight to compete in the South Summit competition on 8 June 2023, in Madrid, Spain. Or $5,000 AUD towards the cost of travel, whichever is preferred.

Following to the LTVD Australia competition, Legal Hour, a live panel discussion, will commence at 6:20pm on the topic of, ‘AI and Tomorrow’s Lawyers: How technology will change what lawyers do and how legal services are delivered and is brought to you by UNSW Law and Justice.

Please note, if you have registered to attend LegalTech Venture Day Australia, you are therefore already registered to attend Legal Hour. You do not need to register again.

6:05pm - 6:20pm - Legal Tech Venture Day Australia competition ends. Short break for audience members to refresh and take seats before Legal Hour panel commences

6:20pm - Legal Hour panel discussion commences

7:20pm - Legal Tech Venture Day Closing Ceremony and Winner Announcement

7:35pm - Networking drinks and canapes in foyer

Professor Mary-Anne Williams

Professor Mary-Anne Williams

Professor Mary-Anne Williams is a renowned expert in business innovation and artificial intelligence, with extensive experience and expertise in entrepreneurship, ethics, and law. She is the Michael J Crouch Chair in Innovation at UNSW and serves as the Director of the UNSW Business AI Lab and Deputy Director of the UNSW AI Institute.

Mary-Anne has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout her career, including the Australasian Best Dissertation Award, the Australasian AI Distinguished Research Contribution Award, several Faculty Awards from IBM and Google, and she led her research team to win the World Championships in Social Robotics. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Sydney and an LL.M from the University of Edinburgh. Mary-Anne is also a Fellow at the Centre for Legal Informatics at Stanford University, the Australian Computer Society, the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering, and the Association for the Advancement of AI (AAAI).
