Data plays an increasing role in almost all aspects of life. It has the capacity to reveal previously hidden trends and biases and enhance fairness in many areas. Courts and tribunals, however, continue to be resistant to the use of data regarding trends in judicial and administrative decision-making, for example, around apprehended bias. What is the scope to use data for your own clients, and what is the potential for further research into data to support this advocacy?
Join us for an enthralling conversation about what data can reveal and how it might be used in review of migration decisions, with leading migration barrister Nick Poynder and leading administrative law academic, Alfred Deakin Professor Matthew Groves. Hosted by the Deputy Director of the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law, Associate Professor Daniel Ghezelbash, this panel will offer rare insights into the inner workings of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Federal Circuit Court based on ground-breaking research and many years of practical experience in judicial review applications.
This hybrid event will take place under the auspices of the Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law’s Strategic Litigation Network, a network of academics and practitioners working on legal issues relevant to refugees and asylum seekers.
